gospel-walking-dead-season-4-episode-10

Walking-Dead-prisonYes, I’m a huge fan of this show, and the writing is usually way above par—one of the more creative and thought provoking shows on TV. That being said, it seemed as if this episode and the next had quite a few, “Really?” moments.

Allow me to rant about a few elements:

  • This week’s episode, titled Inmates, began with Beth’s voice-over, an apparent diary entry from way back when. I thought it a creative way to introduce the episode, but… they never did anything with it? We see a casual glimpse of it in her back pocket, and that’s it. Did they intend to return to that creative plot element, creating nice bookends to the story, perhaps ending the episode with her making another entry and tossing the diary in her bag? I guess

Carl-Rick-AMC-The-Walking-DeadGot a teenager in your house? Then you probably recognized the extremely emotional, highly irrational, and characteristically overconfident teenager who stole all the screen time in this past weekend’s episode of The Walking Dead.

The word “overconfidence” might be a good descriptor of many teens today during this transitional period of adolescence where they are beginning to make decisions on their own. Learning to make good choices is a good thing, but

HershelIt was the final episode of the fall and the final show for some key characters—probably one of the most emotional episodes in the series. But the most difficult part of this episode (SPOILER ALERT) undeniably was losing Hershel.

When we first were introduced to Hershel long ago on his farm, I didn’t know what to think. He was reluctant to take Rick’s group in and he often objected to some of the groups’ methods of survival. But as we grew closer to Hershel and Hershel grew closer to the group, we saw his heart for others. Any hesitation or reluctance Hershel had towards Rick flowed from his compassion for humanity. Hershel struggled with killing to survive. Hershel made every effort to preserve life

Mitch-and-PeteIs it okay to rob someone to feed your own family? Where do we go to find answers to these kind of moral quandaries? That’s the discussion in this week’s The Gospel According to the Walking Dead.

Rick, Carl, Hershel… Daryl? For the second week in a row we are forced to hold off on that story line and focus instead on the apparent metamorphosis of The Governor. Last week we couldn’t help but wonder if The Governor changed. This week, we find

The-Walking-Dead-The-GovernorThis week’s episode is all about redemption and the desire for a new beginning. But the hero in this episode emerged from an unlikely character… the Governor.

Is everyone truly worthy of redemption?

Talking Dead’s Chris Hardwick is skeptical. “You can change your name, but you can’t change who you are.”

Our last recollection of the Governer was as he mowed down his own people with an automatic weapon in an insane rage

rick-and-carlThis week’s episode provided some great father/son moments between Rick and Carl. Rick faces the reality that many parents experience… letting their kids move from the kids’ table to the “grown-up” table.

With Thanksgiving and Christmas around the corner, I’m pretty excited that my two oldest kids will be coming home from college to join us for the holidays. For years the tables were so full that we had a kids’ table and a “grown-up” table.

When the kids were young, they enjoyed the kids’ table. My son would talk about his newest Mario game and his sisters would discuss their favorite characters in Barbie Mermaidia. But soon they outgrew the kids’ table and desired

tyreeseWe’re four episodes into the fourth season, about a year-and-a-half into the zombie apocalypse, and there has never been so much to talk about.

This week’s episode’s title was Indifference, and the key issue at hand is what to do with someone who has become apathetic, unsympathetic or… indifferent. At the end of  the previous episode, Episode 3, Carol calmly looked at Rick and admitted to killing two of the sick in their group. Many would argue Carol had the best of the group in mind, but Rick seems to be concerned about her cheap nba jerseys “indifference” to
