season-nine-episode-one-beginning

This week’s The Gospel According to the Walking Dead is written by youth worker and huge The Walking Dead fan, Ryan Crittenden.

Season 9 of The Walking Dead premiere felt more like The Walking Dead then we have seen for a while… and it gave us a true glimpse at the power of fear.

It has been a year and half in The Walking Dead world since the final battle with the Saviors, which is a great thing! Let’s be honest–Season 7 was boring and felt really forced. Season 8 was marginally better, but

Imagine you watched this show for the very first time tonight. Let’s say that you didn’t know anything that has happened up to this point and that you just tuned in and you had to try and figure out what was going on. Let’s also pretend that you never read the comics (which may be true) and that you have never heard a single conversation about the show.

Who on the show would you relate to the most?

Would you be able to figure out what was going on?

My guess is that you would be

Years ago I had a very interesting conversation with an American who was sympathetic to the Irish Republican Army. Now, most of you probably don’t have very strong opinions on the IRA, especially since there has been peace in Northern Ireland for over two decades now. But it certainly didn’t used to be that way and I know this first hand. So my reaction to this IRA sympathizer was not so great.

My perspective is a little different because I lived in London in 1991 when the IRA

You may have already heard two things about this week’s mid-season finale of season 8 of the Walking Dead. First you have probably heard that the show had the lowest ratings for a mid season finale since season two. This season alone, the show has lost millions of viewers. But second, you may have heard (major spoiler alert!) what happened to Rick’s son Carl this week. Actually, it probably happened a couple of weeks ago when he fought off some walkers with his new pal Siddiq, but Carl has been bitten by a walker. Yes, he was bitten on his torso which means no amputations (a la Hershel) and even Scott Gimple has confirmed that there will be no coming back from this bite. Carl Grimes is going to die very soon…

Who would you rather be, Negan or Rick?

Think about it. Negan has pretty much everything he wants, including immense power and access to most of the material things that people only enjoyed before the Zombie apocalypse. He also leads a very large community that may eventually become an established government in this new world.

What does Rick have? He doesn’t have much power and most of his material possessions have been stripped by the saviors – but he has

What will happen to the world when I am gone?

I know that it sounds like a pretty self-centered question, but I am willing to bet that most of you have asked this question too. Is my contribution to the world going to be missed when I die? Is there anything that I do that is essential to keep the world running?

In my case, I know that my family will really miss me. I have two pretty young children, and if I were to die tomorrow it would be pretty horrible for them. I also know that my wife would seriously miss me, and I know that it would be pretty hard for her.

But the reality is that I know that when I do die, the world is going to be just fine

Ever since 1990, I have been a huge football fan. Not American football (though I did watch every single pathetic 49ers game this year), but the football that everyone else in the world watches. Here in the U.S. we call it soccer. At that time, I lived in England and I got to go to my first football match – the Tottenham Hotspurs vs. Aston Villa. An English friend who was a massive Spurs fan took me to White Hart Lane where I instantly became a huge fan. The crowds were amazing, singing songs and yelling at the opposing fans with all kinds of passion. The teams were great, and I actually got to see Gary Lineker score a goal. It was an awesome experience. Twenty-six years later I still watch every single Spurs game (go Spurs!).

My friend who took me to the game was also a fan of American sports and he asked me what I thought
