The Enlarging Machine

Supplies:
1 very large box to look like a machine. Must be large enough for an adult staff person to sit or stand inside, as well as a number of “enlarged” items. Staff person will prepare and pass the enlarged items out opposite side of box.

The punch line of this skit is an adult staff that has been enlarged from a baby doll (works best if it’s a big-make staff member). You will need an adult-sized diaper for this volunteer staff-actor. Be as creative as possible with the “enlarge-able” item you choose but remember that all of the enlarged items MUST fit inside your box before your meeting begins. Your audience will laugh more if they have no clue as to what will come out of the box.

Host:

Now, you will see with your own eyes what this amazing machine will do! I need a penny! Anyone! Anyone who will volunteer to give me one penny? (takes a penny from audience volunteer) Now, I will place this penny into the INCREDIBLE ENLARGING MACHINE and we shall all witness the truly amazing work of this invention.

Host places the penny in the slot in the left side of the box.
Volunteer adult who sits inside of the box (this is the big guy wearing the diaper) makes machine-like noises and rocks the box. It’s o.k. if it looks corny, no one actually is meant to think it’s real!

Host crosses to the opposite side of the box and from the slot takes a dollar!

Host: Did you see that friends? A dollar from a penny! Let’s try something else. I know we have some small candy bars left from Halloween. Please, hand me one of those mini-Snickers!

Host places mini candy bar into the slot on let side of the box. The box rocks and hums with activity. Next, the Host moves to the opposite side and removes a King Sized Snickers bar.

Host continues with other enlarge-able items such as a small plant which becomes a tree, a baby T-Shirt which becomes an XXL T-Shirt, a mini-water bottle which becomes a gallon of water. Each time an item is enlarged the Host “ooo’s and ah’s” with the audience. The final item Host places in the box is a tiny baby doll in a diaper. The adult inside the box rocks and makes noises louder than before and then breaks through the box on the opposite side. You should get a good laugh!

Optional Skit:
The set up is the same, but everything the host puts into the machine doesn’t work. It just stays the same size. Finally, the host gets frustrated, kicks the machine and spits into the opening. Five gallons of water shoot out at him.
