Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (12/21/2007)

Rated R for sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language.

Directed by Jake Kasdan (Orange County, Zero Effect…)

Starring John C. Reilly, Jenna Fischer, Tim Meadows, Chris Parnell… and about a dozen cameos

This was a sad review for me. I like the director Jake Kasdan a lot. The film was hilarious- very creative. A creative spoof of Walk the Line with numerous fun cameos and some classic scenes that had me rolling in the isles. But I actually got up and left this film.

The film started fine. It was clean, witty and funny. In a time where many slapstick films have proved to be nothing but a few lame impressions and juvenile gags… this film demonstrated to be much more.

So why the “Skip It” review?

The film crossed the line. About half an hour to 45 minutes (I wasn’t timing) into the film, the film makers decided to let the humor descend into showing us the sexual escapades of Dewey and the band. I’ve never seen such clear male nudity as this film, ever (yes, including On Any Given Sunday). Full frontal nudity male and female (note the rating- how often do you see it said like that?). And plenty of other dirty gags to follow.

If the film hits airplanes or edited TV, catch it. It’s an intelligent spoof. But unless you’re taking an anatomy class and need to study… skip it.

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
Nope. Read above.

Side Note:
As said above, we don’t recommend your kids see this film. But on the occasion that they actually have already seen it, you may want to dialogue about the film with them. These questions below may be a help to you.
