Mine (6/13/2017)

Not Rated

Starring Armie Hammer, Annabelle Wallis and Tom Cullen

Directed by Fabio Guaglione and Fabio Resinaro

Dynamic ImageAn interesting idea but a disappointing result.

This “action-packed” military thriller stars Armie Hammer as a U.S. soldier who, stranded in the desert for 52 hours after a mission falls apart, must fight for survival against his enemies, the hostile environment, and the creeping psychological toll of his treacherous situation.

I’m not the biggest fan of Armie Hammer, so I didn’t have the highest expectations for Mine. Especially when I realized this film was probably going to be 90% him…and that’s exactly what it was. We all hated him or at least his characters in The Social Network and I hated everything about The Lone Ranger. He was ok in The Man from UNCLE, so I still have hope. He definitely did not wooo me in Mine.

While other films that pit one or two people against impossible odds are often entertaining…think Open Water and The Shallows, this movie just seemed to force the idea. Instead of making me ask what would I do in that situation, I kept asking is this movie almost over.

The synopsis describes the film as “action-packed”, the reality is Armie is standing on a land mine in the desert for 2 hours.

There really isn’t much to the film, so there really isn’t much to say about it.

If you love Armie Hammer, give it a shot, for me it was a “Coaster.”

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
There is no sex or nudity in this unrated film, but the violence and gore would be way too disturbing for younger viewers.

CONVERSATION STATER:

  1. How would you describe Mike’s situation in the film?

  2. What are some temptations Mike faces?

  3. Why does he stand there even when he is tempted to move?

  4. What are some temptations we face?

  5. Read 1 Corinthians 16:13

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.

  6. How can we stand firm this week?
