Survivor (6/23/2015)

Rated PG-13 for violence, some action and brief strong language.

Starring Pierce Brosnan, Milla Jovovich, Dylan McDermott and Angela Bassett

Directed by James McTeigue (The Raven and Ninja Assassin)

Dynamic ImageI can say I survived this movie.

After being mysteriously framed for a terrorist bombing, a Foreign Service Officer (Milla Jovovich) must evade government capture and death by a ruthless assassin (Pierce Brosnan) in order to stop the real perpetrators’ master—and much deadlier—plan.

I know that this is not be the last film that has ties to 9/11, I just hope it’s the last film with 9/11 ties that is this bad.

Pierce Brosnan, Milla Jovovich, Dylan McDermott and Angela Bassett lead this cast of should-know-better actors through a spectacularly unspectacular spy ‘thriller’. They are decent actors but there is just so little to work with.

Honestly there are so many holes in the plot that I don’t even know where to begin. The longer the film goes the sillier it gets.

There’s very little to recommend about Survivor. Between the terrible script, the less-than-impressive special effects or the ridiculous fight scene between Brosnan and Jovovich (By the way, which is worse: hitting a woman or hitting a senior citizen?) this one is completely forgettable…at least I hope it is.

This one is a “Coaster.”

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
This was a pretty tame PG-13 film. There is no sex or nudity and only one F-word. The violence can get a little intense especially for younger teens.

CONVERSATION STARTER:

  1. When everything goes crazy, who does Kate trust?

  2. Who trusts her?

  3. Read Psalm 20:7

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

  4. What are our chariots and horses today?

  5. How do we put our trust in them?

  6. Instead of trusting in those things, how can we trust in God?
