Rated PG-13 for intense violent sequences throughout, some sexuality, language and smoking.
Starring Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem
Directed by Sam Mendes (Jarhead, Road To Perdition)
Bond is back and better than ever!
007 (Daniel Craig) becomes M’s only ally as MI6 comes under attack, and a mysterious new villain emerges with a diabolical plan. James Bond’s latest mission has gone horribly awry, resulting in the exposure of several undercover agents, and an all-out attack on M16. Meanwhile, as M (Judi Dench) plans to relocate the agency, emerging Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee Mallory (Ralph Fiennes) raises concerns about her competence while attempting to usurp her position, and Q (Ben Whishaw) becomes a crucial ally. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the enigmatic criminal mastermind named Silva (Javier Bardem), no matter how personal the cost.
I am hardly an expert in the world of James Bond, but I will say this, the last three Bond films have been very entertaining. I’m not going to say that Daniel Craig is the best James Bond (mostly because I don’t want a ton of hate mail) but I will say this, he is my favorite James Bond.
This Bond film also starts with a killer chase sequence. I have seen chase sequences before, but no one does them better than James Bond.
One of the other things I really liked about Skyfall was the new Q character. He’s young, energetic and tech savvy where James Bond is an older, more seasoned spy. I love when Q gives Bond his “supplies” – a gun and radio and Bond asks if that was all he’s getting. Q responds with, “What did you expect, an exploding pen?”
Finally there is the villain and Javier Bardem is quite possibly the scariest and creepiest James Bond villain ever.
Skyfall has everything James Bond fans love – action, suspense, and even a little emotion. I was going to rate this movie as “Theater Worthy,” but with the mind-blowing scene in Scotland I’m going all the way up to “Worth Buying.”
SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
This is a PG-13 movie that I would not let my kids watch. Bond has sexual relations with three women in the film. The first is with an unnamed woman in the Caribbean, we briefly see their nude silhouettes as they passionately kiss and caress against a wall. The second affair is with Eve, and very little is seen, but it is still sensual. James is shirtless and allows Eve to shave him. They kiss before the scene cuts. The final scene happens when Bond sneaks onto Severine’s boat as she is taking a shower, and it’s implied the two have sex when they begin to kiss and caress (we only see bare shoulders and Bond’s upper back).?
Then there is Silva who caresses Bond’s face, legs and chest (unbuttoning his shirt).
Next there is the violence. I think most people expect James Bond films to be violent and bloody and this one is no exception. Bad guys are shot, stabbed, punched, kicked, drowned, and on and on and on.
There is 1 f-word and several other obscenities.
