Sentinel, The (8/29/2006)

Rated PG-13 for some intense action violence and a scene of sensuality.

Directed by Clark Johnson

Starring Michael Douglas, Kiefer Sutherland

I enjoyed this film… but you won’t find it in my DVD collection.

A veteran Secret Service agent (Douglas) stationed at the White House tries to clear his name when he becomes the chief suspect of being the mole inside the agency who's plotting to kill the President.

THE GOOD:

  • Douglas and Sutherland were great—a superb combo. Both were likable characters.
  • The pacing was good. A good balance between action and dialogue.
  • I always like films of this genre. While The Sentinel wasn’t In the Line of Fire, it definitely didn’t do the genre any harm.

THE BAD:
  • I predicted literally every single element of this film. I knew who the mole was right away. I would see something happen and turn to my wife and say, “He’s going to die in the next scene.” Sure enough… the guy gets capped. It was frustratingly predictable. (And frustrating for my wife to have to listen to an annoying guy next to her telling her everything that was going to happen!)

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT:
Young kids should skip this one. The film has some intense action violence. And although the film doesn’t have any on screen sex or nudity, an adulteress relationship is implied, including one scene where two people kiss and begin to undress (no nudity)… then the scene changes.
