This movie was less entertainment and more information.

A break in the manhunt for Osama bin Laden serves as the backdrop for the gripping story about an extraordinary group of U.S. Navy SEALs who undertake the mission of a lifetime. Despite inconclusive evidence that bin Laden is inside the compound, and ignoring the possible ramifications of an unannounced attack on Pakistani soil, the Pentagon orders the attack. SEAL Team Six bands together in the most daring military operation of our generation, completing their mission of justice in a riveting final showdown.

In preparation for upcoming movie, Zero Dark Thirty, I wanted to see the other movie about SEAL Team Six and the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound. This movie was okay, but it was like a “Docudrama Light” version of the events that happened on that fateful night. I expected to see more drama from behind the scenes, more tension between the characters and more action as the raid unfolded.

Unfortunately those were the times where it felt more like a documentary than the action movie that it could’ve been.

The cast, which includes TV’s Hell on Wheels’ Anson Mount is great, considering they didn’t have much to work with. Way too much of the movie is set up like debriefing interviews and Skype calls to loved ones. I would have preferred to see these characters developed in more creative ways. Because when you have undeveloped characters, you have an uninterested audience.

The reality is that this film was thrown together way too quickly. Yes, they managed to beat (by several months) Zero Dark Thirty, but at too great a cost. I’m giving SEAL Team Six a “Rental,” and still really looking forward to seeing Zero Dark Thirty.

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
This was a National Geographic movie and therefore is not rated. Most of the action scenes are what you would expect from National Geographic. On the other hand, there are several gunshots to the head where blood is seen and they are more graphic. There is no sex or nudity and even the profanity is on the mild side.
