Ratatouille (11/06/2007)

Rated G

Directed by Brad Bird (The Incredibles)

Starring Patton Oswalt, Brad Garrett, Peter O’Toole, Brian Dennehy…

Another great film from Brad Bird.

A few years ago Bird amazed us with the movie The Incredibles, a piece of animation that adults loved just as much as kids, and a movie that easily rests in my top 50 films of all time.

And now Brad is back with the story of a Rat that loves to cook. This creative storyline follows Remy, a rat who is inspired by TV’s greatest chef, Gusteau (voiced by the amazing Brad Garrett). Remy, stirred by Gusteau’s claim that “anyone can cook” finds his way into the kitchen of the late Gusteau’s famed restaurant and begins practicing his trade through the hands of a young chef that desperately needs Remy’s expertise. The result is a fun tale of cooking, love, friendship and battle against greed.

The film was a delight. My kids and I all loved it. I probably won’t be the first to admit that it will kindly sit underneath the coat-tails of The Incredibles… but that is a high bar to compare it to.

The characters are fun, the script is creative and witty, the animation is spectacular… and the voice talent is unmatched.

I don’t want to spoil anything for those who haven’t seen the film, but I’ll say this: one of the scenes in the end was simply amazing. A heart wrenching flashback gave us a glimpse into just a few seconds of the childhood of one of the characters—a truly amazing scene. Just one of the many great moments in this film.

Catch this one in the theatre with the whole family!

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
Yes. No question!
