JONATHAN’S WORD:
The only thing fun about this film was the fact that we got to see this one together.

TODD’S WORD:
That was a blast…except Jonathan ate all the popcorn.

JONATHAN’S WORD:
Too bad the film stunk! Well, actually, I liked the beginning scene in this film (even though it was dark). But from about 3 minutes into the film on… the film was a boring, confusing mess.

TODD’S WORD:
That’s being a little harsh, don’t you think?

JONATHAN’S WORD:
Come on. You were sitting next to me during the film. How many times did I turn to you and ask, “What the heck is happening?

TODD’S WORD:
About a million times!

JONATHAN’S WORD:
Exactly. And I’m smart. How are kids supposed to follow this plot? This is a Disney film you know. I’ve seen David Lynch films that are less puzzling and bizarre.

TODD’S WORD:
You lost me at “I’m smart.”

JONATHAN’S WORD:
How about you just tell me what you think of the film.

TODD’S WORD:
Okay. I thought it had HUGE potential and I guess it always stings a little more when a lame movie could have been great. With fewer laughs, less Jack Sparrow-isms and the who the heck is the good guy twists, I left caring less about the movie and more about not having anymore popcorn. I will say that it is still a really cool visual film and the few funny moments were pretty good.

The lamest part for me was the United Nations of Pirates that rally together at the end. Seriously, French pirates…come on. And the cheese factor was in overdrive with the fighting, the wedding and most of the dialogue. In one scene…barnacle Jack Sparrow says, “wait a minute, I lost me brain”…that’s pretty much how I felt after this one.

JONATHAN’S WORD:
I still think it stinks! I can’t score it as a “coaster” because there were a few creative scenes that made me chuckle and the performances were actually good. But all those elements couldn’t redeem this confounding piece of garbage. Skip it.

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
This film was much darker than the other two with plenty of violence and a touch of sexual innuendo. I (Jonathan) will be skipping this one with my 10 and 12 year old and I (Todd) will be counting my blessings that my kids didn’t see Pirates 2 and therefore will have no need to see this one.
