Rated PG for some language and a disturbing image.
Directed by Alejandro Agresti
Starring Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves, Christopher Plummer
Creative idea, but a little too slow for my taste.
A lonely doctor (Bullock) who once occupied an unusual lakeside home begins exchanging love letters with its newest resident, a frustrated architect (Reeves). They must try to unravel the mystery behind their extraordinary romance before it's too late.
This chick flick definitely had an original premise. The story had me intrigued and wondering how the tale would end, but it just didn’t have enough to hold me throughout the film. If it was a book, I would have just skipped to the last chapter. As it turned out, I think I saw my watch more than I did the big screen.
This film doesn’t hold a candle to other good date flicks of late: Little Manhattan, Hitch… or even films of recent past like The Notebook or Spanglish. While The Lake House might have had a good one page synopsis, the actual script failed to captivate. The dialogue is dry and there are scarce comic elements.
Bottom line: ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
Sure, it’s clean. And it will help them go to sleep.
