Just My Luck (8/22/2006)

Rated PG-13 for some brief sexual references.

Directed by Donald Petrie (Miss Congeniality, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Mystic Pizza)

Starring Lindsay Lohan, Chris Pine

My kids got to see 20 minutes of this film… that’s when I finally gave up and turned it off.

Why? Did it have a bunch of nudity, sex or bad language?

Nope.

It was just subtle garbage.

If you’re a guest, tuning into this page for the first time, let me warn you that I see everything through the filters of the fact that I am a parent and a youth worker. This film was a nice attempt at a cute little love story, but in the first half hour alone it subtly alluded to stealing, lying, casual sex, “hooking up,” taro card reading, or scenes like, “Do you want to dance?” “Sure.” … and 20 seconds later these two strangers have their tongues down each others’ throats because it felt right at the moment. Hey… what’s wrong with that? Let’s just say the film represented a completely accurate picture of this new generation’s morals and ethics.

And an even sadder fact: most kids from today’s generation would be shocked that anyone could be offended by this film. After all, it appears so innocent compared to so much of the other junk out there today.

Sorry… skip this one altogether. If your kids want Lindsey Lohan, rent The Parent Trap or Herbie.

Side Note:
As said above, we don’t recommend your kids see this film. But on the occasion that they actually have already seen it, you may want to dialogue about the film with them. These questions below may be a help to you.
