Rated PG for mild rude humor and action/peril.

Starring The voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Peter Dinklage, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Wedge and Nicki Minaj

Dynamic ImageThe Ice Age franchises needs to be put on ice.

Scrat’s nutty pursuit of the cursed acorn, which he’s been after since the dawn of time, has world-changing consequences — a continental cataclysm that triggers another adventure for Manny, Diego and Sid. In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny, and the herd encounters a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home.
Ice Age is a classic example of movies out living their entertainment value. I loved the first two movies. There were so many great laughs, the stories were fun and the cast was perfect. But with the fourth installment, it was painfully clear – this was not their best effort.

Ray Romano, John Leguizamo and Denis Leary are still my favorites and Peter Dinklage was a nice addition. Wanda Sykes is usually very funny, but she was just so stinking annoying in this one. And I’m still not a fan of Queen Latifah and with Jennifer Lopez and Nicki Minaj joining the cast…it lost serious points.

Besides losing points for the cast, I thought the story was really weak. The whole pirate thing is tired, ridiculous and not very creative. Listen, I know it’s a cartoon with talking animals…but don’t ask me to believe that ice can be turned into the shape of a ship and sail the ocean blue. That’s just asking too much.

Fewer laughs and more annoying characters…I say see it, but only if you have a free rental coupon.

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
