Teen Lingo Updates

I heard a youth worker talking to a kid the other day and he told the kid that something was “rad!” The kid looked at him with a blank look on his face, as if to ask, “What’s ?rad?'”

Kid’s talk different today than they did five years ago, and much different than they did 10 years ago. Some words have survived the years, but new words surface each year. How can we keep current with this stuff?

Here are some new updates for my on-line Teen Lingo Dictionary. If you haven’t already seen the dictionary, check it out now. It has over 100 existing definitions and is the largest Teen Lingo Dictionary on the web:

TEEN LINGO UPDATES:

bootie
1. n. Someone’s posterior. 2. See bootsie

bootsie
adj./adv. Something undesirable. An inopportune or unfair situation, event, or thing. “Man, that teacher is bootsie” “Did you see his pants? Bootsie!”

blunt
n. usually a cigar filled with Marijuana. Sometimes just a large “joint.” “Let’s go smoke a blunt!”

butta
n. the good stuff. “Now that’s the butta!”

cheddar
n. money. “He got phat cheddar.”

cheese
see “cheddar”
chillin
v. to simply “hang out” with no purpose or reason. “I’m just chillin wit my friends.”

chizzlin
see “chillin”

flashing
v. yelling at someone, usually in front of others. “What’s up?” “My mom was just flashing.”

freak
n. a very good looking female. The supreme “hottie.” “Jesse, quit parlayin with that freak and let’s roll!”

haten
v. derived from “hating.” To do bad things or say bad things to someone. To express dislike. “Why you gotta be haten on me?!!”

hops
the ability to jump high. “He has hops.”

I’m out
(derived from “I’m out of here”) Something to say when leaving, as if to say “I’m out of here.”

I’m straight
to declare that you are alright in your current state of being, as if to say “I’m cool,” or “I’m good already.”

late
(derived from “later”) Something to say when leaving, as if to say “I’m out of here.”

let’s roll
a phrase used to express that it is time to leave. See “let’s bounce”

mad
adv. an adverb that means to have a large amount of. See “mad hops” or “mad skills”

mad hops
an incredible ability to jump high. “He has mad hops.”

parlayin
v. relaxing and communicating, like sitting and talking to a female. “Check out Reggie parlayin with Shana.”

putting me on blast
to be publicly disciplined or to have someone raise their voice at you. Similar to “putting someone on the spot.” “Why was that teacher putting me on blast?”

this piece
a residence or place. “We up in this piece.”

true
a phrase said to express agreement, as if to say “I agree” or “good point.”

wacked
see weak

weak
adj. no good, a bad situation. “This is weak.”

whoobangin
v. to communicate bad things about someone. To gossip. Also known as “talking trash.” “Quit your whoobangin and let’s roll.”
