THE SNICKERDEW CONTEST. With a Sneaky Twist.

Looking for some fun up front activities? Here’s a fun idea added by Jeff Gunhus.

The SnickerDew Race
Choose a number of contestants based on the size of your group, 2 – 6 works best. Give each contestant a King Size Snicker bar and a can or bottle of Mountain Dew. The contestants simply race to see who can finish their feast first.

If you are feeling extra sneaky, add yourself to the game and give a Joe Nameth-style guaranty that you will win the competition. The key to the win is to give everyone else a candy bar that is nearly frozen. Yours will be nice and soft at room temperature. Just pretend like it is hard to bite into.

READING YOU WON’T REGRET. Jonathan picks the top 10 ministry books that even non-readers will love!

I’m regularly asked by youth workers, "What are the best books you’ve read recently?"

I decided to post a list of the books I’ve found to be a great help to youth workers, to me personally, and in my ministry with youth. There are so many more good ones I could have put on this list- but these are the top 10!

#1 Finishing Strong, by Steve Farrar: This book grabs you from page one! Only 1 in 10 Christian leaders will finish strong. "In the Christian life, it’s not how you start that matters. It’s how you finish."

#2 Purpose Driven Youth Ministry, by Doug Fields: The definitive volume for youth ministry today, detailing nine foundations for purpose driven ministry – from the Youth Pastor of Rick Warren’s acclaimed Saddleback Church. Don’t miss this one!

#3 The Youth Builder, by Jim Burns: This is the textbook youth ministry book, with the basics you need, from a guy who knows what he’s talking about! You’ll grab for this one over and over again!

#4 Teaching To Change Lives, by Howard Hendricks: This is the best book on teaching and mentoring students that you’ll ever read, from one of the most entertaining writers and communicators around.

#5 Inside the Mind of Unchurched Harry & Mary, by Lee Strobel: Understand the perspective of the unchurched from a guy who lived that perspective. Read the exciting testimony of Lee Strobel, (author of A Case for Christ and A Case for Faith) an ex-atheist who found Christ through a church that understood the unchurched.

#6 Becoming a Contagious Christian, by Mark Mittelberg and Bill Hybels: The best book on reaching out today. Learn an easy-to-use, hands-on means of identifying and developing an evangelism method that’s effective for you.

#7 What Would Jesus Say to . . . , by Lee Strobel: Ever thought what it would be like if Jesus met Madonna face to face? What about Bill Clinton? What about Bart Simpson? Taking on topics like success, sexuality, leadership, forgiveness, skepticism, success, and prayer with firm, biblically based concepts, this book uses current celebrities to introduce the God of hope and the God of second chances.
