DC/LA 2000

Do any of these names ring a bell? Steven Curtis Chapman, Kirk Franklin, Jars of Clay, Jennifer Knapp, Geoff Moore, Out of Eden, Michael W. Smith, The Supertones, Sonic Flood, Trin-i-tee 5:7, or Jaci Velasquez??? How about these speakers: Jim Burns, Reggie Dabbs, Ken Davis, Miles McPherson, Duffy Robbins, or Lori Salierno??? Well these are just some of the people that are going to be at the largest youth evangelism training superconference, DC/LA 2000, this summer in Washington DC and in Los Angeles.

If you haven’t signed up for this training superconference yet, you better hurry. This Friday Dr. Dobson’s radio show is going to focus on it and the DC event will sell out that day!

Imagine 15,000 students gathered in LA and over 20,000 students in DC, being trained and equipped to reach their friends and family with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.

I checked out the event for the first time a decade ago. I brought a student who was so equipped and inspired by the conference that he went home and led his sister, his mom and several friends to Christ. Now I am one of the trainers at the event and I’d love to see some of you there!

My best friend got this email last month:

January 11, 2000

Hi Mike,

Thanks so much for your comforting note. I’m hanging in there since Dad died. I joined a grief counseling group that meets weekly on Monday nights. It’s good to learn about the process. For me, learning is healing. Last weekend we had the memorial service at a nice church near our high school. What a sad sad sad time.

All of this has me really wanting to learn about and embrace religion. Mike, I know you and Cindy have a great deal of faith. Would you share some of your thoughts on the subject? You have traditionally been so quiet about your faith, and I really respect you for it. And it is for that reason, that I ask you and not others.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Wendy

What would you write back?

Last week when I finished a talk at a youth retreat, a student came up to me crying and asked if she could talk. We sat down in a corner of the noisy large room and she said, “Okay . . . tell me about this whole God thing!”

What would you say? Could you answer without writing a book?

I remember the first time I royally botched up a simple one-on-one Gospel presentation. I had a perfect opportunity, and next thing you know, I was rambling about some tangent and the person was bored silly!

The Gospel message is simple- and we need to be ready to share it. Unfortunately so many youth workers, volunteers, and student leaders don’t know how to share a clear Gospel presentation or how to open the door to share their Faith without getting their foot caught in it!

Check out some of the basics in sharing your faith on my staff training page (use the link below). Once on my staff training page, click on the CREATING THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE, to find some great ways to open the door to present the Gospel. You can also find great door-opening questions on this page. Click on SHARING YOUR FAITH to see five facts that no one should miss when sharing the Gospel. Also see great stories and examples that you can use to share the Gospel to others. Use this link for these free resources on my staff training page:

If you want more excellent stories and examples or are interested in having your staff or student leaders trained, consider bringing Jonathan out for one of his training seminars. Check out Jonathan’s speaker or trainer page:
