Free Training Tools: What would happen if we gave teenagers opportunities to serve and use their gifts prior to high school graduation? -Take a peek at what Ministry-By-Students looks like in this new Free Training Tools article!

The Arizona Shooting Tragedy (Anger)

Main Point of Discussion: Anger is a useful emotion when it is kept in check and used appropriately, but when left uncontrolled, it can quickly destroy relationships and even human lives. That’s why God commands us to control it and even limit it to one day.

The Incident: Arizona shootings On January 8th, 2011, a lone gunman named Jared Lee Loughner opened fire on Senator Gabrielle Giffords, and then shot randomly into the crowd, killing several others. It’s just another example of the pain and suffering caused by a person who lost control of their anger.

Transitional Statement: Senseless violence and tragedy of this kind usually leaves us in a state of confusion and even fear, but it is important that we process events that are the result of evil and humanity’s sinful nature so we can learn and grow from our experiences.

Youth Culture Window – The Dominance of Video Games: Do you see teenager after teenager glued to glossy screens, engrossed in the latest video game? So does everyone else! That’s because video gaming is a multibillion dollar per year industry. In our latest Youth Culture Window article, David R. Smith unpacks the biggest games of 2010 and 2011, and what you’ll need to know about them.

The Dominance of Video Games

And What it Means for Today’s Teenagers

An article from David R. Smith at TheSource4YM.com

Long gone are the days of Italian brothers romping through mushroom kingdoms to save princesses. These days, gamers are much more likely to execute enemies, plant bombs, and kill prostitutes.

Oh, and there’s the occasional fitness game.

Video Games are Big Business…Really Big Business
We’ve already addressed the popularity (and problems) of video games in previous Youth Culture Window articles, but with constant additions to the video game smorgasbord – and their multibillion dollar revenue each year – we thought an update was necessary.

Video games are no longer restricted to “consoles” such as the Wii or the Play Station 3; these days, gamers play on cell phones, social networking sites, the internet, and a multitude of handheld devices. In short, video games seem to be available everywhere.

And that accessibility translates into very good business for the video game industry.

The 10 best-selling video games from 2010 have two things in common: sequels and sales…lots and lots of sales. Many of the Top 10 games are follow ups, for instance Call of Duty: Black Ops, the 7th game in the Call of Duty franchise. And all of the Top 10 games have sales in the millions!
