Eight Below (6/20/2006)

Rated PG for some peril and brief mild language.

Directed by Frank Marshall (Alive, Congo, Arachnophobia, …)

Starring Paul Walker, Jason Biggs, Bruce Greenwood …

Jonathan’s Score: Theatre Worthy

Eight Below was a fantastic family film.

After being forced to evacuate and leave his dogsled team at a remote Antarctic outpost, a survival guide (Walker) does whatever he can to get back there and rescue his dogs. The dogs are forced to survive on their own until he can make it back.

The film is intense, but heartwarming. Animal lovers might go through quite a bit of Kleenex, but they won’t be disappointed.

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
Absolutely. I brought the whole family and had no regrets (other than my 8-year-old daughter going through a box of Kleenex). The film might be a little frightening and sad at times for really young kids.

This could also be a good youth group film. There is absolutely nothing objectionable in the film. The language is as mild as you can get: four uses of the word “Hell” and one “Oh my God.”
