Jason Bourne is back . . . and so is the proverbial sequel that just doesn’t measure up.
In the first film we were left with the expectation that Jason and Marie would live happily ever after on the beach. Not a chance. Unless we want the sequel to be Summer Lovers. ZZZZzzzzzzzz.
Okay . . . it's not that bad. I guess my first impression was just tarnished by my own viewing experience. 1. I had high expectations. 2. I saw it in a hotel for $10.95 on their little TV and bad sound, not to mention the glitch across the screen that kept vibrating the picture every 20 seconds. But that's not the film's fault. It was much better when I saw it the second time with good sound on a big screen.
In Supremacy, Jason is framed for a botched CIA operation and is forced to jump back into the role of the trained assassin to survive and clear his name.
Sound good? Sure . . . for a rental.
Is Bourne Supremacy a bad film? No. But it had a hard act to follow. It just doesn’t equal Bourne Identity. Jason never makes your jaw hit the floor as you look over at your friend sitting next to you in the theatre and say, “COOL!” He doesn’t pop out of a house and casually shoot a propane tank, pop up into the woods and take down a trained assassin without breaking a sweat.
Supremacy will, however, entertain you with decent performances, good action and a few surprises. Not a bad rental.
