Dynamic ImageIn a word, EPIC.

Breathtaking in scope and scale, The Bible features powerful performances, exotic locales and dazzling visual effects that breathes spectacular life into the dramatic tales of faith and courage from Genesis through Revelation. This historic television event is sure to entertain and inspire the whole family!

Over the years I have reviewed several “Christian films” and honestly that is not a task I generally get excited about. I’ve been told I’m too critical and too harsh on the directors and actors in a majority of those films. I don’t say this to sound arrogant, but I will not apologize for expecting excellence. And hopefully when I say that The Bible series is excellent, you believe me.

This is a 10-hour, five-part, mini-series that tells some of the best-known stories from the most popular book in human history, from Noah’s Ark and the exodus to Daniel in the Lion’s Den to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

Roma Downey (TV’s Touched by an Angel) was the only familiar face in the entire series, and believe it or not, that enhanced the experienced. Maybe it’s because I’m a “movie nerd” but if the heroes of the Bible were Hollywood heavyweights, I would have been more focused on what else they had done and less focused on who they were portraying.

Some of the “criticism” that I have heard from family and friends was that there were inaccuracies in the miniseries. Well first of all, I would say the book is always better than the movie. Secondly, if a scene caused you to ask, “Is that really how that happened?” and that question caused you to pick up your Bible and read the story for yourself, I don’t see how that as a bad thing.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this series with my family. I loved reading these familiar stories again and discussing them together. For me, there is no question…it is “Worth Buying.”

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
There are a few scenes that may be difficult for younger children to watch. Scenes with Sampson, David, and of course the crucifixion of Jesus to name a few. But other than that, this is a series for the entire family.

CONVERSATION STARTER

  1. After watching this series, how would you grade yourself on “Bible knowledge”?

  2. How can you increase your Bible knowledge?

  3. In Joshua 1:8 we read exactly how to increase our knowledge of the Bible.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

According to this verse, what else will happen if we read and meditate on God’s word?

  4. Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

According to this verse, what are some other reasons to read God’s word?

  5. What can you do this week to develop better Bible reading habits?
