Rated PG for some mild rude humor.
Directed by Tim Hill (Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, Muppets from Space…)
Starring Jason Lee, (and the voices of: Justin Long, Jesse McCartney…)
I enjoy it when I see my kids enjoy a movie. And that’s about all the enjoyment you’ll get out of Alvin and the Chipmunks.
The Alvin film was juvenile, predictable and mediocre. Don’t get me wrong. Most kids will probably really like it. But for adults… the preview sums up about ever scene worth seeing in the movie.
I probably laughed harder at the waste of talent on the film. The chipmunks’ voices were played by the very talented Justin Long and Matthew Gray Gubler (from TV’s Criminal Minds). But how much of their ability really comes through at audio two to three times the normal speed?
I was disappointed in the director because his Muppets in Space was a fantastic film for both kids and adults. Alvin isn’t worthy to shine Muppets in Space’s shoes. (Can you shine a movie’s shoes?)
I guess the film delivers a few laughs. But I’d only watch it if it’s free.
SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
Sure. Just be ready to endure typical fart jokes and innuendo of the modern era.
