The Best Resource I?ve Found!
I have been on a quest for good evangelism training resources for the last few years . . . and I finally found a goldmine!!! Next week?s e mail newsletter features an interview with Bo Boshers, Youth Director of Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago. You?ll like what you hear from this youth worker of 20+ years youth ministry experience. But more than that, you?ll like the new YOUTH EDITION of BECOMING A CONTAGIOUS CHRISTIAN. It is a training curriculum that includes a powerpoint CD, a video, a leader?s guide and a student guide all for under $100. I usually try to pump free stuff on my site- but I saw this curriculum- and it was SWEET! (Sorry, I grew up in the 80’s, we used that word!) So mortgage the lawnmower if you have to and pick up this curriculum!
Check out the Bo Boshers interview next week for more details!

Okay- back to the FREE STUFF!
It’s super simple. All you do is put together a dance (note: all Baptists can make it just a dinner). Go all out. Have a DJ, food, disco ball, the whole 9 yards. Build it up way ahead of time, with this being the only rule: whatever the students wear must be formal and it must cost under 10 bucks. They sell some pretty ridiculous suits at Goodwill for under 10 bucks. The students buy the tickets ahead of time, and show up looking absolutely stupid. The kids may make a night of it (ie: show up at The Waffle House dressed like that!). It’s a great thing to do around Valentine’s Day. Get adults to chaperone it, dressed in 10 dollar tuxes of course.

It’s great because it allows the youth to see the adults in their church in a different light and know them on a more personal basis. It’s also low pressure for your volunteers, it allows them to shop (we’re doing it on Dec. 22 when the malls are packed with frantic shoppers), have fun and be involved.
For more fun, have your volunteers dress up in costumes. We had a gentleman, usually sharp dressed, dress up as a skater, etc.! It was a hoot!
We’ve also written “crimes committed” by each individual (stole candy from a baby, etc.) just to give it some more fun.
