Youth Culture Window: Lady Gaga “Vomits” her new song Judas-Between Judas and Jesus, Gaga “Clings” to Judas

If you haven’t heard the newest on Gaga’s newest song
“Judas,” you might want to check out our Youth Culture
Window
article this week from David R. Smith:

5 Stars

Ahhh Easter…a season to focus on Jesus, His death, and His resurrection. Serious reflection usually brings new reasons to love Him. Orrrr…we could ponder Lady Gaga’s new song Judas, and try to understand why she chooses a traitor over the Savior.

Introducing Judas
Judas is the latest single to be released off of Lady Gaga’s album Born This Way. Its original release date of April 19th was wildly anticipated by millions of her “monsters” (fans) – so wildly, in fact, that the release date had to be advanced after a British radio station prematurely played the tune on April 15th. (As of this writing, the song has only been on the airwaves for 6 days, and it’s already cracked Billboard’s Top 10.)

To promote the new tune, Lady Gaga employed her video blog aptly titled Gagavision. In Gagavision #41, the singer teases her viewers at the end by saying, “So that concludes Gagavision Number 41. ‘Judas’ is coming. Let the cultural baptism begin.” A message then reads: “Judas April 19. If they were not who you were taught they would be, would you still believe?”

Musically-speaking, Judas is exactly what someone familiar with Gaga’s music would expect…

Resource Review: A Review of Jonathan’s popular new book, Candid Confessions of an Imperfect Parent– “Honesty, from start to finish”

Rick Nier reviews Jonathan’s brand new parenting book in his insightful blog. Here’s just a snippet:

…And “honest” is what we see over and over again from Jonathan. From start to finish we get the idea that Jonathan and his wife are in the trenches, along with the rest of us, in this parenting adventure. In 10 easy to read chapters we get everything from building relationships to seeing those teenagers leave the home. Jonathan gives his opinion to you without apology and backs it up with plenty of stories and research.

Just like the title might suggest, those stories don’t always end up with him winning, not even in the Charlie Sheen delusional fashion. He’s not claiming a perfect style, in practice or philosophy, but he gives us all plenty of tools to figure out our best style.

For churches who are interested, this is a great tool for small groups or parenting classes. Each chapter ends with great discussion questions and chapter 8 even gives a great exercise for figuring out what kind of parent you wish to be. As I’m thinking ahead in my own ministry schedule, 10 chapters can easily fit into 1 chapter a week, making this something even the busiest parent can make time for.
