TRAINING TOOLS:
If you’ve been on our website at all in the last couple years, you’ve probably discovered our TRAINING TOOLS page. It’s easy to find. Just look at the top of our website and use the ARTICLES & FREE TRAINING dropdown menu to find FREE TRAINING TOOLS. Once on that page… click on HELP ME and one of the top TRAINING TOOL articles you’ll find is “Connecting With Students.”
Use that article, not only for your own development, but for the development of your leaders. Hand it out to your leaders and discuss. Ask them how this affects their view of the importance of “connecting.”
TRAINING VIDEOS:
Now take the same steps I guided you through above to find the TRAINING TOOLS page, but now select TRAINING VIDEOS instead of HELP ME. On that page you’ll see two resourceful videos that will help you and your leaders connect: “Connecting with Six Types of Kids” and “Connecting with Student.”
The first video, “Connecting with Six Types of Kids,” is a great video to show your volunteers-a true overview of relational ministry. The “Connecting with Students” video shows you a sticky-note exercise that I do at my CONNECT training workshops. I go into great detail about how to lead your adult leaders through this exercise in chapters 4 and 14 of my book, CONNECT.
FREE PPT:
In chapters 14 of my CONNECT book, I go into great detail to use all the principles of the book to teach you how to help your leaders “connect.” When I finished writing the book, I thought it would be nice to provide a free resource for people to be able to teach this information to their leaders. So we provide a PowerPoint slideshow(ppt)(also works with “Keynote”) to anyone who buys my CONNECT book-basically, I ppt’d chapter 14 of the book. It’s that simple. When you buy the book on our site, the ppt is sent to you automatically.

“This by far is the most practical, practical book I have ever read actually implementing a strategy and structure to make it happen!”
– Dan Kimball, Author of They Like Jesus But Not The Church
“Connect needs to be in the hands of everyone-paid or unpaid-who works with kids for the cause of Christ. It is so easy to read and so full of practical tips and stories that it succeeds in becoming the kind of rare book that both inspires and instructs, a standalone coaching resource.”
– Dr. Dave Rahn, Huntington University Director of MA in Youth Ministry Leadership
“Connect challenges us to honestly assess where our teens are spiritually and provides the focus, insight and practical tips we need to significantly impact the life of every teen we encounter.”
– Greg Stier, Author of Venti Jesus Please, and Dare 2 Share
“It seems to me that God is all about relationships. So much so that he broke into our world to let us get to know him. Jonathan has come up with the ultimate book on relationships. This maybe the most important topic he has written on. How do you connect with the diversity of students where you live? How do you get them to connect with each other? How do you get them to connect with God? Jonathan gives practical answers to these questions and more. The book is filled with helpful stories of real kids and genuine youth workers. It is an easy to follow book with realistic steps you can take your youth ministry to the next level. I think chapter fourteen alone maybe worth the price of the book because it reveals how little we know about our students. Jonathan then offers a series of questions to remedy the situation. I have seen Jonathan do this with my University students in my classes and have watched the light go on above their heads. They suddenly get it and their ministries are transformed.”
– Les Christie, Author of When Church Kids Go Bad
“As youth culture continues to change at breakneck speed, I meet a growing number of youth workers and parents who feel more and more out of touch and intimidated by kids. Let’s face it, taking that first step to build a relationship with a kid is intimidating. I’m grateful for Jonathan McKee and his ability to show us how to get past our fears to connect with relationships that are real and deep. Connect is a valuable and encouraging tool that not only helps us take that crucial first step, but helps us to keep walking further and further so that we might lead kids deeper and deeper into the faith.”
Dr. Walt Mueller, Author of Youth Culture 101
