Title: Feeling God's Presence
Information: This discussion is designed to help students understand that God loves them and is by their side every day in school, whether they see Him or not! Students will see that God knows all, sees all, and hears all.
- Good timing and a little bit of coordination
Opening: “Touched by God” – THIS WILL AMAZE YOUR STUDENTS!
This is a very simple activity that involves one student. Have the student come to the front of the room and ask them “if they have ever felt God physically touch them?”
Regardless of their answer, let them know that you are going to help them feel God today. Tell them to pay close attention and concentrate. (Practice this with several people before-hand to get it down–i.e. your staff, your sister, your dog…) Take your index finger from both hands and point them at the participant's eyes. Tell the student to keep his/her eyes open and looking at the two fingers until the count of three. Slowly move your fingers closer to their eyes-once-then pull away. Twice, then pull away, and then three! At this time you are going to move your fingers close enough so that they close their eyes. When their eyes close you will then make the secret move.
SECRET MOVE: Take your first two fingers (from you right hand) and gently touch the closed eyes of the student. Almost like you are Larry from “The Three Stooges.” This keeps them from seeing that you are now only using one hand to touch their eyes. Now take your free hand and tap them on the shoulder. Then quickly move your hand back and adjust your index fingers to be pointing at the participant's eyes. This makes it look like both of your hands were touching their eyes and that you would not have been able to touch their shoulder. Again- practice your timing on someone and get the moves down before-hand.
IF DONE CORRECTLY THIS WILL FREAK THEM OUT. They will think that someone is helping you or standing behind you. Repeat this only a couple of times so that they don't figure out what you are doing. Normally on the last attempt I would (while their eyes are closed) smack them on the head, then move back into position and say, “Oohh, God must of just smacked you in the head!” This one is a good attention getter and will make a lot of students die laughing.
Transition: “You may not see God every day, or feel God every day, but He is there. He sees all, knows all, and is with you everywhere you go.”
Text: Hebrews 4:13 “Nothing in creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”
- Are there things in your life that you think God does not know about?
- What does it mean when the Bible says that we are going to have to give an account?
- How does God view you?
- How do your peers view you?
