Stupid Skits

If I Were Not A Youth Worker

if-i-were-not-a-youth-worker

Volunteers assume a character of their choice in this interactive singing skit. It’s a great skit to use at the beginning of the year to introduce leaders. Others use this at church dinners or fund-raising banquets and get all their volunteer leaders up front to be introduced. Be creative with characters, adding folks who are unique to your specific location.

Supplies:
5 volunteers (They will each assume a character of their choice. Each character will need his/her own props.)

Possible Character Ideas:
an undertaker (dark suit, shovel)
a birdwatcher (binoculars, safari hat)
a farmer (overalls, checked shirt)
a surfer (swim trunks)
a flight attendant (tray with coffee/tea, barf bag)
an ice cream maker (white smock)
a postal worker (uniform/hat/mailbag)
a ballerina (tutu)

The song goes, “If I were not a youth worker, I know just what I’d be. If I were not a youth worker, a ____________ I would be.” And each person in turn jumps in and does his or her character all in rhythm.

Undertaker: “Well, well, well, you never can tell, if they’re going to heaven or if they’re going to Well, well, wellÓ

Birdwatcher: “Hark, a lark, flying through the park, splat!”

Farmer: “Come on Bessy give, the baby’s got to live!” (mimes milking a cow.)

Surfer: “Hey, Dave, totally awesome wave!”

Flight Attendant: “Here’s your coffee, here’s your tea, here’s your paper bag, blahh!”

Ice Cream Maker: “Ushy Gushy, ushy gushy, good ice cream.”

Postal Worker: “A post, a post, a post. A post, a post, a post.”

Ballerina: “Tippy, tippy toe, tippy toe, tippy-toe.”

Volunteers are lined up across the stage or front of the room. As each volunteer takes his/her turn singing their part and filling in the blank they step forward, mime their action, sing their lines and then step back into line so the next volunteer may go. But the song gets longer and longer as volunteer one repeats his part after volunteer two goes. And after volunteer 6 goes, 5,4,3,2 and 1 also go again. The song begins to sound like this:

“If I were not a youth worker, I know just what I’d be. If I were not a youth worker, a ____________I would be.

    • (Ballernia)

Tippy, tippy toe, tippy toe, tippy toe.

    • (Postal Worker)

A post, a post, a post. A post, a post, a post.

    • (Undertaker)

Well, well, well, you never can tell, if their going to heaven or if they are going to. Well, well, well.

    • (Birdwatcher)

Hark, a lark, flying through the park, splat.

    • (Farmer)

Come on Bessy give, the baby’s got to live!

    • (Surfer)

Hey, Dave, totally awesome wave!

    • (Flight Attendant)

Here’s your coffee, here’s your tea, here’s your paper bag, blahh!

    • (Ice Cream Maker)

Ushy Gushy, ushy gushy, good ice cream.

We would always do the bird followed by having a spoon of cool whip splattered on them. And the surfer would be splashed with water & the farmer would have milk squirted on him.
