Coffee House

We live in a small town where there is not much to do and not much close by (45 min to nearest theatre, shopping, etc). I hold a “Coffee House” 2 times a month where kids can gather in a safe atmosphere. We play pool, ping pong, foosball, cards, karaoke, and yes, we even have coffee with light snacks.

We don't have a lesson or speaker…just let the kids gather under Christian supervision. We have pulled in kids from the whole community. It gets them to the church without pressuring them. Once they've come to coffee house a couple of times, they are usually ready to come to Wednesday night services, Sunday school, and church.

We stared out with 5 kids for the first Coffee House and we are now up to over 30 kids for our Wednesday night services. We have really been able to reach a lot of kids this way.

This is a superb idea. I’m glad I found this site seeing as I work with the youth of my church. I’m very concerned for our next generation.

Really love this idea, how do you go about promoting it to the students?

I Love your coffee club idea and we have been running something similar once per month on a Sunday evening (with free pizza, coke and doughnuts) in our local rural church in the UK. We have now grown to approx 21 young people attending who would not otherwise come to church. My question is how do you do structure your Wednesday night services so that your young people are encouraged to attend? I don’t want to change the format of the Sunday evening event as it might lose the young people we’ve been building up relationships with, but we need to move them forward into building a relationship with Christ. Thank you for any advice you can give.

Fran… good question. I’m not sure if Jennifer, the original person adding this post will ever see this and answer, but I think Rob answered this pretty well in this article: https://thesource4ym.com/when-soccer-trumps-youth-group/
