Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (3/10/2015)

Rated PG for mild action, some rude humor and brief language.

Starring Ben Stiller, Ben Kingsley, Ricky Gervais, Robin Williams, Rebel Wilson, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan and Dan Stevens

Directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum and Real Steel)

Dynamic ImageRarely is the third film of a trilogy better than the second one, but Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb is just that.

Get ready for the wildest and most adventure-filled Night At the Museum ever as Larry (Ben Stiller) spans the globe, uniting favorite and new characters while embarking on an epic quest to save the magic before it is gone forever.

I really wasn’t excited about seeing this film because the second one was awful. But my kids wanted to see it, so reluctantly I agreed.

The film starts out in Egypt feeling more like Indiana Jones than a silly slapstick movie for children. It’s exciting and lays the groundwork for a genuine storyline.

The familiar cast including Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, Steve Coogan and Owen Wilson are back and continue to bring the laughs. Rebel Wilson makes an appearance in this one and while I’m really not a fan, she has a few funny scenes.

Shawn Levy has directed the previous two films and really redeems himself after the Battle of the Smithsonian. He keeps things moving while telling a creative story and uses the talented stars to make the audience laugh.

I’m so glad my kids wanted to see Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. It was good clean fun for the whole family and worth the “Rental.”

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
This film is fine for most older children and all teens. There is no nudity or sexual references, but there is mild profanity and violence.

CONVERSATION STARTER:

  1. How does Larry respond when Pharaoh claims to be “the only god”?

  2. Do you agree with Larry? Why or why not?

  3. Read Deuteronomy 6:4

Listen, Israel! The Lord our God is the only true God!

  4. Why is this verse so important to us as Christ followers?

  5. How does the truth of this passage help you live out your faith?
