Entourage (2015) (9/29/2015)

Rated R or pervasive language, strong sexual content, nudity and some drug use.

Starring Jeremy Piven, Adrian Grenier, Jerry Ferrara, Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon, Billy Bob Thornton, Haley Joel Osment and Rhonda Rossi

Directed by Doug Ellin (several episodes of Entourage)

Dynamic ImageThis film definitely falls in the “totally unnecessary” category.

The boys are back. After eight seasons of living the dream life on HBO’s hit show Entourage, Vincent Chase and his crew – E, Turtle and Drama – are taking their Hollywood adventures to the big screen. Literally. Having already dominated the town as a movie star, Vince wants to bring his talents behind the camera, as a director of a movie in which he, too, will star. With no prior directing experience, only one studio executive is crazy enough to give Vince the reins to his own multi-million dollar production – his former agent, high-powered and tightly-wound Ari Gold.

I guess the biggest question that I had about Entourage was “why?” Why make an hour and a half movie after a show has been off HBO for eight years? Did the world really need an update on Vincent Chase and his friends? And after four years, did anyone still care?

The obvious answer (well at least it was obvious to me), was no.

The cast, story and even the director have not changed or developed…it’s just more of the same. And “the same” is almost entirely inappropriate behavior.

There really wasn’t much to enjoy about this film. Although I will say the scene with Mark Wahlberg and his entourage was entertaining. Especially if you know that the series and now the movie are based on his life and real-life friends.

I don’t know who really wanted this film to be made, but I wonder if they regret that it was; because Entourage is a “Coaster.”

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
No way. There are several scenes that show sex and nudity as well as a ton of profanity.

CONVERSATION STARTER:

  1. How would you describe the relationships between Vincent and his entourage?

  2. What are some examples of their friendship?

  3. How would you describe the relationships between you and your friends?

  4. Read John 15:13

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

  5. Do you think Vincent and the guys would lay down their lives for each other?

  6. Do you think your friends would lay down their lives for you?

  7. How great of a friend is Jesus to us?

  8. How can we be a better friend to him?
