Dynamic ImageI waited 20 years for this?

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to their original smash hit with Dumb and Dumber To. The original film’s directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.

20 years ago I was a college student and Jim Carrey was one of the funniest men on the planet. My friends and I quoted Dumb and Dumber excessively and hoped for a squeal. But it never happened and I gave up hope. Then there was the prequel…UGH that was a total mess. But then there were the rumors. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels were going to finally do it? YES!!

Then I saw the trailer…I didn’t laugh one time. I was nervous. I was uneasy. And I walked into the theater with pretty low expectations. But I still can’t believe how this movie managed to disappoint.

The stars, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, have been able to maintain their acting careers (although Carrey is far removed from his comedy superstar heyday), and directors, the Farrelly Brothers, haven’t made a solid comedy in looooooong time.

But the biggest problem is the jokes were lower than my expectations. I mean there are so many crude jokes that it made the film unwatchable…especially knowing so many teenagers are going to see this.

I know a lot of people who hated the first one. Maybe I’m older, maybe I’m more mature, maybe I was hoping for too much…but when its all said and done, Dumb and Dumber To is a “Coaster.”

SHOULD KIDS SEE IT?
No! The jokes and language are crude and relentless.

CONVERSATION STARTER

  1. Have you ever done something “dumb”? What was it?

  2. Most likely it was nothing like Harry and Lloyd, but have you ever felt “dumb”?

  3. Read James 1:5

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

  4. What does this verse tell us about God? Wisdom? And Him answering our prayers when we ask for wisdom?

  5. What is one thing right now that is going on in your life that you need wisdom to handle?
