Free Training Tools: Training Your Own Volunteers! PART II

From the Desk of Jonathan: Last week in this EZINE I gave you “The Top 5 Training Methods You Can Do Yourself” -some great ideas if you can’t afford to send your team of adult leaders to a conference or bring someone in to train them.

This week I want to give you another cheap way to train your leaders yourself.

Teaching Your Adults to “Connect”
By Jonathan McKee

Ministry is back in full swing and in the last couple weeks we’ve had a ton of youth workers using my book CONNECT: Real Relationships in a World of Isolation to train their leaders?after all, we provide some great free training resources on our site that correspond with this book.

This method of training is simple and cheap. Buy your adult leaders a copy of my book, CONNECT: Real Relationships in a World of Isolation. Our web site has this book discounted right now for over 30% off. We also have package deals so you can get this book in bulk for less than $10 a book.

Once your staff team has the book, get together to discuss what you’ve read. We provide several free resources on our web site that will help you do this:

1. We give anyone who buys this book from us a free PowerPoint training that corresponds with Chapter 14 and Chapter 4 of this new book. (you’ll receive an email with a special link for this training when you purchase the book)

2. This video shows you how to do the STICKY-NOTE EXERCISE with your team?an exercise laid out in Chapter 14 of the book.

3. This video is a fun summary of the SIX TYPES OF KIDS discussed in detail in the book.

Use these tools to help your adult leaders not only realize the importance of relational ministry, but give them the tools and accountability to CONNECT!

“Connect” needs to be in the hands of everyone-paid or unpaid-who works with kids for the cause of Christ. It is so easy to read and so full of practical tips and stories that it succeeds in becoming the kind of rare book that both inspires and instructs, a standalone coaching resource.

Youth Culture Window: Unforgettable “Moments”?a Preview of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards

An article from David R. Smith

There’s always a risk in trying to predict award shows; but when it comes to MTV’s Video Music Awards, I can offer a few guarantees: Tons of risqu? humor, Lady Gaga dressed like a freak show, and girls shrieking when Justin Bieber takes the stage.

Bet on it, baby!

The Coveted Moonman
On Sunday, September 12th, the biggest names in music will be competing for tiny, silver, flag-planting astronauts called “moonmen.” The legendary icon – still symbolizing MTV to this day – has not only staked its claim on entertainment, but youth culture in general. That’s why we recommend that parents and youth workers actually pay attention to this show each year (more on that in a minute). The Video Music Awards, aka the VMAs, is one of the most accurate windows into today’s youth culture you’ll find…

David R. Smith

David R. Smith a 15-year youth ministry veteran, is now a freelance writer for TheSource4YM.com and a pastor of a church in Tampa. David speaks and trains around the U.S., sharing the gospel, and equipping others to do the same.
