Bring It Together:
(about 15 minutes after start time)
"Hey, glad to see you all here. Welcome to INSERT NAME OF YOUTH GROUP. To get started tonight, I'm going to give away some Blow Pops to a few people that are sitting down and have good reflexes."
“When my hands cross you clap your hands- Let's practice . . ." Move arms opposite each other, up and down in front of you- when your hands cross, they clap. Fake them out, speed up, slow down, etc.
"Okay, now just upper classmen . . . now lower classmen . . . good job!"
Ro Sham Bo Train:
"Everyone grab a partner and do rock, paper, scissors- now if you lose, go behind the person that beat you, put your hand on their shoulder and follow them. Now the two of you challenge another pair, the losing pair gets behind the winning pair and so on and so forth until finally its down to two huge teams and one will win, giving us someone who never lost- they get a prize."
The Wheel O’ Doom:
The Wheel O’ Doom is a wheel that we made out of a couple of 2x4s on a stand with a round piece of wood spinning on a loose bolt at the top of the 2x4's. Basically is was our own home-made wheel of fortune. It had enough room on the circle to put about 8 “pie pieces” with different descriptions of activities written on them. We’d spin the wheel and a little pointer would point to a given pie piece when the wheel stopped spinning.
"It's time for the Wheel O’ Doom- Who wants to be the first to give it a try? Alright, step right up and what you land on is what you do!"
Baby Bottle Suck
Spam for Snow Trip
Fast Food With Staff
We’d bring a contestant up, spin the wheel, and they’d do that activity. Sometimes they got to choose someone to do it with them. Great fun and a great way to make students really earn prizes!
"For those of you that are new to our youth group, we are here for you guys. We want you to have a place to come, be heard and express yourself. We'll always have a great time- sometimes we'll talk about things that are important to you- like friendship, family, and the choices you make in life and how they effect you- and we're here for you to help you if you want it. Sometimes these talks will lead to discussions about God. . . and that's okay. Each of our staff believe in God and have a relationship with him. Don't worry- that doesn't mean anything funky- we won't pound on your head with Bibles or make you sell flowers in airports or anything; we just think a relationship with God is very important. If you have any questions about that we'd love to try to answer them.
But most of all we're here for you and we're gonna have a blast this year- starting next week for free root beer floats- we're gonna hand out fliers right now so you can bring your friends next week. Everybody gets free root beer floats. See you next week!!!"
Optional Video Wrap up of Evening:
"Now just a peak to show you a little better what our group is." (show a video of group)
